Roy Jans (Wanty-Groupe Gobert) was close to a second 2015 win when he finished fourth in the first stage of the Volta ao Algarve.
"I am happy though I could have done better. I had to come from far and took the outside turn. The team did fantastic work for me, Dron, Antonini, Leuki [Leukemans]. All of them!"
Marco Marcato woke up sick this morning and abandoned the race in the feed zone.
"Tomorrow is a stage with a tough final," sports director Hilaire Van Der Schueren says. "They can all go their chance and show what they are made off. No need to be in the breakaway tomorrow."
Meanwhile, Frederique Robert finished 8th for the team in the bunch sprint on stage 3 of the Tropicale Amissa Bongo.
"The team worked hard with Bretagne-Seche to catch the first and second breakaway so I am happy about that," sports director Steven De Neef said. "In the sprint Robert had to come from to far and finished 8th."
