The World Championship Elite men’s road race will take place in Richmond at the end of this month and Italian national coach Davide Cassani would like to select aggressive rider at this competition. The line-up will be build around Diego Ulissi.
The Lampre Merida rider hopes to improve his shape with a strong stage in his country. Last May, he won a stage at the Giro d’Italia. It was his first success since his nine-month ban for a positive test for Salbutamol.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Cassani would like to select a sprinter in order to have a second strategic option with Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek Factory Racing) with/or Elia Viviani (Team Sky). Vincenzo Nibali (Astana Pro Team) should be present. Matteo Trentin (Etixx-Quick Step), who won at the Tour du Poitou Charentes, Manuel Quinziato (BMC Racing Team), Daniel Oss (BMC Racing Team) will be there to be part of the core of domestiques.
Fabio Felline (Trek Factory Racing), Alessandro De Marchi (BMC Racing Team), Giovanni Visconti (Movistar), Sonny Colbrelli (Bardiani-CSF), Davide Villella (Cannondale-Garmin) and Kristian Sbaragli, a recent Vuelta stage winner, are the outsiders for remaining places.
