As track cycling is doing well in Italy, the national federation wants to take advantage of the momentum. In Gazzetta dello Sport, the President of the Italian Federation Renato di Ricco has announced the construction of a velodrome in Treviso.
The idea, as revealed by Di Rocco, is that to complete the project in 2019 and that the velodrome can host national teams as they prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The goal is also to host major events such as The Worlds, national championships and Six Days. The velodrome will have room for 4500 spectators.
In 2016, Elia Viviani won a gold medal in the omnium at the Olympics.
