After the bunch sprint, Italian Christian Delle Stelle finished in 11th place in the Belgian one-day event Nokere Koerse – Danilith Classic.
"It was very hard race. In the first hour, the average speed reached 50km/h. And the wind was making everything even harder. The final sprint didn’t really suit me, because the road was paved with cobblestone. It favored more powerful riders and I weigh only 65 kilograms. I am happy with my form, which has been improving in the last couple of weeks and I feel confident ahead of the next races," Chrisitan Delle Stelle said afterwards.
Extremely high pace at the beginning of the race made creating a breakaway impossible. It took over 70 kilometers to form a leading group. David Boucher (FDJ), Jonas Rickaert (Topsport Vlaanderen – Baloise), Frederik Backaert (Wanty – Groupe Gobert), Dieter Bouvry (Roubaix Lille Métropole) and Alphonse Vermote (Vastgoedservice – Golden Palace) went away, establishing an advantage of over 5 minutes-
The peloton started to cut down the hap very early and the break got caught with 50km to go. It was followed by a series of attacks. Lots of riders were trying to create some gap but the chasing group was in control the entire time.
It came down to a bunch sprint. The finale was held on a cobbled road which went slightly up. Christian Delle Stelle was able to finish the race strongly in 11th place. Kris Boeckmans (Lotto Soudal) took the win. Justin Jules (Veranclassic – Ekoi) and Scott Thwaites (Bora-Argon 18) rounded out the podium.
