Young Luca and Simone Sterbini attacked together in Stage 4 of Tour of Austria that offered the demanding mountaintop finish in Drobatsch after 205km.
Bardiani – CSF’s duo was in front of the race together with Slovenian Tratnik (Amplatz – BMC), gaining as much as four minutes with 80km to go. Unfortunately the peloton increased the pace in the second part and caught all the escapees at the bottom of the final climb with 15km to go.
The stage was won by Spaniard Victor De La Parte (Team Voralberg), who beat Hirt (CCC). The first Bardiani rider was Andrea Manfredi in 64th.
"The Sterbini brothers were really good and they delivered a strong performance. I’m pleased with their attitude during this long breakaway. Now I expect to see them in front again , maybe in a stage where the escapees have a better chance to battle for the victory," manager Roberto Reverberi said."
