Coming off the back of a successful Vuelta a España, where he won a stage atop Aramon Formigal, Gianluca Brambilla was hoping to showcase his strong form at the first edition of the European Championships open to professional riders, but unfortunately he will have to skip the event in France because of a saddle sore.
Brambilla began to experience pain on the final day of the Spanish Grand Tour and medical examinations he underwent this morning have showed that he needs three days of complete rest and therapy before resuming activity. Next week, the Etixx – Quick-Step rider will undergo a new check-up, to find out when he can return to training.
“I am very sad, because I was eager to race the European Championships in Plumelec”, said Gianluca, runner-up at the Italian Championships this season. “I wish all the best to my countrymen, will support them from the front of my TV. Concerning me, I will be on my bike as soon as the doctor gives me the ok and start preparing for my final goal of the season, Il Lombardia.”
