Despite an unfortunate start, Miguel Angel Lopez is still ambitious for the 2017 season. The Astana is recovering after suffering a fracture of his tibia a few weeks ago in training and will be forced to start late.the situation was the same Colombian climber in an interview with El Tiempo:
"It's all right. For now, the medical advice is total rest and you have to have patience. I have already stopped completely for 15 days and must wait another 10 days before undergoing a new MRI and see how the situation evolves,” he told El Tiempo.
“Fortunately the break comes in the off-season,” added the winner of Milano – Torino. “There is enough time to recover ahead of 2017. We know that I will get even stronger next season.”
The goal of Lopez is to ride again in February to prepare for the Tour de France in 2017.
"A few months ago, I talked with sports director Dimitri Fofonov in view of my plans for the 2017 Tour. They believe in me and in my ability to be co-captain at the Tour de France.”
Lopez will share the leadership with Jakob Fuglsang while Fabio Aru will lead Astana at the Giro.
