With his good performance in the Giro del Trentino Franco Pellizotti gave some indications of an increasing disposition, and yesterday’s showing of the Androni-Venezuela confirmed that the form of 36-year old Italian is growing as he finished seventh ahead of numerous GC contenders.
The Androni-Venezuela captain finished seventh yesterday, over a minute down on stage winner Fabio Aru (Astana), but still able to put some time on a group made of several race favorites including former maglia rosa Cadel Evans (BMC), Wilco Kelderman (Belkin), Robert Kiserlovski (Trek Factory Racing) or Domenico Pozzovivo (Ag2r La Mondiale).
Pellizotti, apparently displeased with his former showings in this year’s Giro d’Italia, confessed to feel revealed after yesterday’s performance and suggested that he haven’t said his last world in the season’s first three-week event yet.
“There are still long climbs left [to ride],” Pellizotti told Rai, “During yesterday’s stage I wanted to redeem myself.”
