Wanty-Groupe Gobert has several cards to play in this varied edition of the Eneco Tour. In this seven day stage race through the Netherlands and Belgium the decisive stages will take place in the second half of the week.
“On the first three days we hope for good results from both Roy Jans and Marco Marcato in the sprints. Marcato has finished in the top ten on four consecutive days in the Tour of Denmark and is currently third in this race that finishes on Saturday. However, in the Eneco Tour you know that it will be very hard to obtain results in stages with big names like Greipel on the start list," sports director Hilaire Van Der Schueren said on Friday. Marcato ended the race in third
In the final stages, which have a more classical character, the team has several aces to play. The fifth stage from Riemst to Sittard includes some of the climbs known from the Amstel Gold Race. The final stage with a finish on De Vesten, just under the top of the iconic 'Muur', in Geraardsbergen features the cobbles and climbs of the Flemish Spring Classics.
“For these stages we look at riders like Bjorn Leukemans, Enrico Gasparotto and Marco Marcato. When it comes to a good result in the overall classification much depends on the time trial in Hoogerheide on Thursday. We must get through the first three days without crashes and then ride the time trial à bloc. A good overall classification is then also a possibility for the team," Van Der Schueren concludes.
