Having abandoned the Tour de France due to illness, Sacha Modolo is using the Tour de Pologne to build form for the autumn season. Today he got an important confidence boost when he finished fourth in the third stage of the race.
Going into the Tour de Pologne, Sacha Modolo said that the race may come a bit too early for him as he had just come back from the illness that took him out of the Tour de France. He would mainly use the race to builld form for the Eneco Tour and the Vattenfall Cyclassics.
Apparently, he is already in a reasonable condition. Today he mixed it up with the best sprinters and finished fourth in stage 3 which was an important confidence boost for the fast Italian.
"It was important to have Modolo back in the sprints after a period without competition," sport director Maini pointed out. "He was searching for feedbacks, the other sprinters were searching for the victory. In this battle, he got a good result. He nedded a test. I think it was important for him to feel the support of the team and both have received a nice feedback from the result.
"It's necessary to give value to the work that his teammates did, including Bono that gave his support to the chase of the 4 escapees. We received positive news by Cunego too, who completed the stage without problems from his wounded knee".
