Today IAM held their Giro d'Italia press conference where they outlined their goals for the Italian grand tour.
“Clearly our main goal is to win a stage,” explained IAM Cycling directeur sportif Kjell Carlström, who will be joined by Mario Chiesa as another team directeur sportif at the Giro d'Italia. “There are opportunities for us starting with Matteo Pelucchi in a sprint on stage 1. But we will also take our chances by being on the offensive and going into breakaways.”
Matthias Brändle is ready to give his best in the prologue on Friday.
“Fabian Cancellara and Tom Dumoulin have been designated as the favorites. But there are other outsiders who have a chance, and I am one of those. I have prepared myself well for this rendezvous, including doing some altitude training at Säntis.”
On the bike routes through the Dutch countryside, the nine riders from the IAM Cycling team took a 90 minute training ride under the welcomed sunshine before taking part in the press conference that precedes the Giro. Matthias Brändle, Heinrich Haussler and Marcel Wyss then went off and did some motor pacing.
