Things didn't go to plan for NetApp-Endura in the USA Pro Challenge as neither Leopold König nor Tiago Machado managed to mix it up with the best in the overall standings. Instead, Bartosz Huzarski took over the leadership role and he ended the race in with a fine 7th place.
Bartosz Huzarski ended the US Pro Challenge with an outstanding seventh place in the overall rankings. The 33-year-old Pole laid the foundations for this success by consistently heading up the two high mountain stages and time trials. As in the previous year, the overall victory after 842 kilometers through the highest U.S. state was secured by Tejay van Garderen (BMC Racing Team). On the 126-kilometre final stage from Boulder to Denver, Tiago Machado was part of a high-caliber breakaway group, but the rest of the field caught up 30 kilometers from the finishing line.
“As final stages go, this was not an easy day. In particular, the strong winds during the first 35 kilometers made the race much harder than expected. But once again, the boys were very attentive. Tiago made it into the leading group and when Bartosz sustained damage 50 kilometers from the finishing line, we had sufficient riders in the already decimated field to support him optimally. All in all, we had a good race, although it was very hard due to the altitude and the time difference,” sums up the satisfied sport director Alex Sans Vega.
The next race for the tour specialists of the NetApp-Endura team is the Tour of Britain, which starts in Liverpool on September 6th.
