It is highly questionable whether Lotto Soudal will manage to have Jurgen Van den Broeck in the top 10 at the end of the Giro d'Italia.
The 32-year old rider finished twelfth in the queen stage and now holds the same position in the overall standings, more than 3 minutes behind Ryder Hesjedal in 10th.
"The disappointment after the stage was immense. Jurgen just had no strength in his legs, like Maxime Monfort. They both started Mortirolo in a good position but halfway up the climb they were alreadt one minute behind Contador," said sports director Bart Leysen in Het Laatste Nieuws.
"Now we have two days to recover. Who knows whether something will be possible on Friday or Saturday. Look at Steven Kruijswijk or Ryder Hesjedal," Leysen added. "They also had a bad time in this Giro, but are now back on top."
