Lotto Soudal prepares for the new season in Mallorca. Moreno Hofland is one of the acquisitions and has clarified his role within the team. "I want to play a role in the sprint train," the Dutchman tells Belga .
Yesteday team leader André Greipel didn’t seem to care about Hofland’s arrival. The Dutchman is not offended.
"I'm not a sprinter like Dylan Groenewegen who can find the gap in a sprint to win real bunch sprints. I'm more the type of rider that is fast in a tough final. Look, this team has one of the best sprint trains in the world. I would like to play a role there, to be a part of that train and I hope to do that a lot in order to get better. André must not be afraid of me, it is not my intention to take his place.”
Wieler Revue was present at the training camp. Hofland tells the magazine why he was ready for something new.
"At LottoNL-Jumbo, we started to set up a sprint train for me, but I soon found out that the way did not suit me."
In the Giro, Hofland had to take his own chances with Jos Van Emden as a lead-out man.
"I just want to win and that’s possible at Lotto-Soudal. In the sprint train I can gain experience and if I pay attention to Greipel in the coming years, I can learn a lot. For me it's a win-win-win situation. "
The sprinter will also do the spring classics in 2017.
