Today the Vuelta peloton races along the coastline of the Costa Blanca. The first 120 kilometres of the stage are flat. Just like yesterday the peloton has to do two ascents of the same climb in the finale, today it’s the Alto de Puig Llorença. The first time the riders won’t go to the top. At the end of the stage they do, then the climb is 4.1 kilometres long with an average gradient of 8.9% and parts up to 19%!
“I want to be active again in the stage today, that could be by joining an early breakaway or by attacking in the finale. I don’t think it will be a matter of size whether a group will make it to the finish or not, but rather which teams are in it," Adam Hansen said. "Orica - GreenEdge might agree that the stage win goes to a rider of the breakaway and possibly won’t chase. Teams like Movistar, Sky and Tinkoff Saxo might have other interests. I can’t quite remember if I already did the climb in a race in the past, but I studied the roadbook. I’m feeling really good here, I think I showed that yesterday. Things just have to fall into place and I need some luck as well. If it doesn’t happen today it might be tomorrow, that’s a stage that should suit me even better.”
