Rasmus Guldhammer took 5th in today’s 166.2km 5th stage at the Tour of Britain. This allowed the in-form Dane to move into 3rd in the GC.
The stage was won by Wout Poels just ahead of Edvald Boasson Hagen of MTN – Qhubeka. Edvald Boasson Hagen takes the lead in the general classification, only 30 seconds ahead of Guldhammer.:
“Today was very successful and went as planned," sports director Luke Roberts said. "Rasmus Guldhammer was in a good position for the last climb. Unfortunately as Boasson Hagen attacked, Rasmus tangled with another rider and missed the attack. However, he finished 5th.
“During the next 3 days we will have a lot of work to try to defend the podium. Some of the riders sitting just a few seconds behind Rasmus in GC may threaten the podium spot with the sprint points so we will have to ride smartly.”
