Ukrainian Andriy Grivko of Astana has showed he is capable of making a good GC in a World Tour race. The day before the last stage of the Eneco Tour, he finished 6th on the stage and is now four in the overall GC. It looks like a certain top 10 spot.
Grivko finished 58 seconds behind stage winner and new yellow jersey holder Tim Wellens of Lotto-Belisol. Today’s stage looked a bit like the spring classic Liege-Bastogne-Liege, while the stage of tomorrow will contain some of the same climbs as Amstel Gold Race.
“To win the GC here you need partnerships in the peloton – most teams have 2 or 3 for the finish, and the roads are so hard at the end.” Andriy Grivko said after the stage to the Astana website.
If Grivko holds his spot in the GC it will be the best result in a stage race this year.
