André Greipel of Lotto Belisol reeled in the victory in the fourth stage of the Tour of Turkey today.
The stage started in Gocek and finished in Marmaris with the final ten km of the stage going slightly uphill. Greipel survived well and showed his fast legs at the end in a group of about forty riders. He beat his fellow countryman Nikias Arndt (Argos-Shimano) and the Dutchman Moreno Hofland (Blanco).
There was also less good news for the Lotto Belisol team on the day. In the descent of a second category climb, after 50 km of racing, Oliver Kaisen crashed together with about ten others. He sustained an open wound of his thighbone and that had to be stitched. After Jonas Van Genechten dislocated his collarbone in a massive crash in stage two, the team has now lost a second man.
“We didn’t need to work today, because Adam [Hansen] was in the breakaway," commented Greipel after his stage win. "I could stay with the front group when it went uphill the last time as there were no others sprinters left. Then I took my chance and got the victory. We look day by day, if there’s another sprint we’ll try again, like Sunday in Istanbul.”
