The only Breton WorldTour race will skip its circuit format in 2016. The goal is to continue to attract the best riders in the world.
After having extended the circuit twice in the last eight years, the orgenaizers have decided to change the format by skipping the circuit format in a race that will have the same start and finish in Plouay.
"The UCI(International Cycling Union, ed.) led us to make this choice, in particular to provide maximum exposure of Bretagne on television, and boost the number of viewers," explains Jean-Yves Tranvaux in the Ouest-France newspaper.
The chairman of the organizing committee and his team of volunteers were quick to respond positively to the wishes of the international Union, mainly due to the reforms of the WorldTour that is expected to lead to a reduction in the number of race days from 173 to 120. This means that races are likely to disappear from the prestigious calendar.
"If we want to stay at this level, we must show our good will. We think that Bretagne, with its great cycling history, deserves its place in this new calendar."
The modification of the course is also accompanied by a name change that will see the name include the word Bretagne. The four-day cycling festival Four Days of Plouay will continue to exist and still incorporate a women's World Cup race held on the Saturday on the well-known circuit.
The course for the WorldTour race is expected to change every year.
