Michal Golas proved that he is ready for the World Championshiops when he finished third in the GP Impanis. The Pole was beaten by Greg Van Avermaet who has been described as an outsider for the World Championhips but the Pole won't rule out that he can create a surprise too.
OPQS rider Michal Golas finished 3rd out of a small group, after a long day in the breakaway at 195.8km Primus Classic Impanis- Van Petegem on Saturday.
The initial breakaway of 10-riders was eventually down to a lead group of seven inside 18km to go, with an eight rider chase group behind including OPQS rider Gianni Meersman.
Only five riders were able to decide the final. Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing Team) won the small group sprint, with Tosh Van Der Sande (Lotto-Belisol) 2nd and Golas 3rd.
Meersman finished 7th out of a group 11" behind the five riders.
Iljo Keisse crashed and was unable to finish the race.
"This is of course a good result for me," Golas told Diretvelo. "It was a difficult race and in my opinion it has great potential. The organizers do a good job. If they continue in the same vein, the race could still grow. Maybe they could still add a few more climbs in the finale.
"Greg Van Avermaet again shows his form. He will be one of the favorites for the Worlds, but maybe not the favorite number one. I could very well be considered an outsider too."
