Third in the final stage of Tour of Hainan, Benjamin Giraud (Marseille 13-KTM) looked set to repeat his success of the fifth day.
"I launched the sprint with 300 meters to go and it was much too far with the headwind," he told Cyclism'Actu. "But that's the game! I draw a very good personal balance of this Tour of Hainan. I was regular in all stages (second in the points classification behind Sacha Modolo) and had growing shape. I felt better and better. It's a satisfying race. Collectively, it was great. With a stage victory, the final top 3 and the polka dot jersey (both for Julien El Fares) we could hardly do better, except for Julien having regrets for not having won the penultimate stage. For the yellow jersey, Modolo and his team were superior."
