Philippe Gilbert has expressed his dissatisfaction with his BMC team. The Belgian is currently riding the Tour of Switzerland but does so against his will. "With what motivation am I at the start? Actually I have no motivation," Gilbert tells Het Nieuwsblad . "It's hard to motivate yourself when you have no insight into your program."
The 32-year old does not know whether he will ride the Tour de France. Directeur sportif Valerio Piva has already told media that he would be glad to have Gilbert in La Grande Boucle. "Do they want me there? I have heard nothing. You shoul call Ochowitz (team manager, ed.). Do you have his number? I think this is already a very bizarre situation. No, I do not understand their approach."
The team management wants the be sure that Gilbert is in good shape. "I'm not a neo pro anymore," he says. "I have nothing more to prove, especially after my two stage victories in the Giro. They refuse to show me that confidence. I am fresh after the Giro, I climbed better than ever without having to overdo it."
"Furthermore, there are many opportunities for me in the first week of the Tour," Gilbert adds. "Well, I'm here to try to show that I'm good. What stage? Sorry, I have not looked at the profile of the stages."
