This Sunday will see the fifth edition of the Garmin Velothon Berlin. After achieving two wins with Marcel Kittel (GER) in 2011 and 2013 and a fourth place by Tom Veelers (NED) in 2012, Team Giant-Alpecin heads to Berlin with a strong team with lead-out capabilities built around Ramon Sinkeldam (NED).
The Dutchman, who took a fourth place in yesterday's second stage at the World Ports Classic, recently extended his contract with the team and will be looking for a good result in the German one-day race.
Sinkeldam will be supported by Zico Waeytens (BEL), who achieved three top-10 placings in the Amgen Tour of California; Tom Veelers, who gained racing kilometers at the World Ports Classic after making a successful comeback to competition at the Bayern Rundfahrt; Johannes Fröhlinger (GER); Lars van der Haar (NED); and Fredrik Ludvigsson (SWE), who will return to racing after an absence due to a knee injury.
“The Garmin Velothon Berlin is an important race for our team, and we will aim for a place on the podium with our sprinter Sinkeldam. We will seek to attack whenever we can if it’s necessary to achieve our goal. Ideally, the race will end in a bunch sprint so that we can deploy our lead-out train,” explained coach Rudi Kemna .
