The Russian company Gazprom will sponsor the cycling team Rusvelo. The announcement was made by Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko at a meeting with the candidates to participate in the 2016 Olympics.
According to the minister, Rusvelo will continue with this new sponsorship and will work only with Russian riders as usual.
Rusvelo was created in late 2011 as part of the Russian Global Cycling Project that has the WorldTour Team Katusha at the top. It is a team more focused on the track, World Cups, World Championships and Olympic Games.
Riders like Ilnur Zakarin, Dmitriy Konzontchuk, Pavel Kochetkov, Alexander Rybakov, Petr Ignatenko, Timofey Kritskiy and Sergey Lagutin have made the jumo from Rusvelo to Katusha in these four seasons. Others, such as Anton Vorobyev and Sergey Chernetskiy, made the step from the continental team Itera-Katusha continental. Mamykin is the last rider to make that move.
