In the 17th stage of the Giro d’Italia from Tirano to Lugano, Southeast wanted to do well because the finish was very interesting for Francesco Gavazzi. After the final sprint, the Tuscan team took 16th with sprinter Alessandro Petacchi.
Francesco Gavazzi said: “We tried to stay in the front end of the group behind the riders of Sky, and we did it until the last four kilometers. Today the group didn’t let the breakaway go to the finish because in this Giro we haven't done many sprints. I was happy to pass near my home today. Tomorrow in Verbania I will again try to win the stage, and in Milan we will help Petacchi.”
