The Coppa Agostoni is the first race of the so-called Trittico Lombardia. Just like in Belgium during the GP Wallonie, the weather gods were not upon the riders in the north of Italy. Enrico Gasparotto finished ninth, Marco Marcato came in eleventh. They were the only Wanty-Groupe Gobert riders among the 35 finishers of the 198-kilometre race.
After the last rider of the original breakaway had been caught, the race started in earnest.
"When Nibali, Scarponi and Rebellin attacked, I tried to bridge towards this group. I made it but on the next climb I got dropped by them because the chase cost me a lot of energy. The teams of Ponzi (Southeast) and Bonifazio (Lampre-Merida) weren't able to chase hard enough and only made it back to the breakaway on the finishing line!," Gasparotto recalls the story of the race.
