Yesterday the sprinters fought for the stage win at the Tour de France, today it’s something for punchers. In the first half of the stage, three climbs of the fourth category will challenge the riders. The second part isn’t flat either but only one climb, close to the finish, is categorized. Will this be the day of Tony Gallopin?
“In theory the second stage is for a different type of rider than yesterday’s stage," he said. "It’s a course that should suit me and it’s the first stage of Le Tour de France I’ve marked. I don’t know the last climb, unless I’ve raced there once when I was younger.
"There are two types of riders who could win today I think: strong and fast riders like Sagan and Matthews or punchers like Valverde, Van Avermaet and some others.
"I hope I can show something. Not only the last climb of three kilometres is tough, but the entire last 25 to 30 kilometres are tough. I’m curious to see how it ends!”
