Tony Gallopin was again a main protagonist in a major race when he finished second in the GP de Wallonie. However, the Frenchman had started to race gunning for the win and couldn't hide his disappointment with another near-miss.
With a stage win and stint in yellow at the Tour de France, Tony Gallopin has had a memorable season and after strong showing in Canada, he has marked himself out as a strong contender for the World Championships. Today he confirmed his good condition by finishing second in the GP de Wallonie.
"I finished second but it is a real disappointment," he told RTBF. "Our team was here to win. Greg [Van Avermaet] was very strong and he is a great rider but I am disappointed.
"As Jelle [Vanendert] was in the break, I was in control and I could just wait for someone to make an effort. I wanted to go right away but I couldn't. The good thing is that I have been getting better and better since Plouay. Hopefully, I will continue to progress for the Worlds."
