Organizers of the small Stan Siejka Launceston Cycling Classic in Tasmania have made a major coup. Chris Froome and Richie Porte will both line up at the two-day event in early December.

2013 Tour de France winner Chris Froome will join fellow Team Sky rider & best mate Richie Porte in this year’s Stan Siejka Launceston Cycling Classic on the 6th and 7th December.

Arguably one of the best duos in world cycling at the moment, Porte and Froome will commence their 2015 campaign in Tasmania after their much needed season ending break.

"We are excited and honoured to not only have Richie support and race at his home event again, but to have a Grand Tour winner in Chris Froome race is a massive coup. The presence of both Porte and Froome will no doubt put Tasmania on the map worldwide," said race director Nigel Baker.

Both Froome and Porte will race the Saturday Kermese at Symmons Plains before the Stan Seijka Classic on Sunday evening around the Launceston CBD circuit.

Together with approximately 100 of Australia’s best National Road Series riders from teams such as Avanti, Drapac & Budget Forklifts the Elite Men’s race will be explosive.

The organizers are expecting a crowd in excess of 20,000 people to line the CBD circuit to watch what is arguably one of the best street circuit criterium in Australia.

This year’s women’s event will also feature pro tour teams Orica GreenEDGE as well as Rochelle Gilmore’s Honda Wiggle team.  The Australian Criterium champion Sarah Roy from the Roxsolt team along with local stars Macey Stewart, Georgia Baker & Amy Cure will ensure the race will be fast and of an International standard.

All going to plan, this year’s event will also be televised live around Australia & possibly into many European countries with the TV rights to be finalised over the coming days said Baker. To be able to promote Launceston and Northern Tasmania at an International level has been as aspiration of the Committee for some time.
