“I am very happy with this 2nd place, especially since we proved how strong we are overall by placing three riders in the top 10 and winning two stages.  Personally, I am reassured about my form ahead of the next races.”

For the first time, Mathias Frank is going into the Tour de France as a team leader and this week the Swiss proved that he is on track for a great result when he finished second in the Bayern Rundfahrt. Reassured about his form, he is now focusing on the Tour de Suisse.

The Tour of Bavaria come to a close in Nüremberg with a sprint victory by Sam Bennett (NetApp Endura).  Well-protected by his teammates, Heinrich Haussler came in a strong 6th place, confirming his return to great form.

After winning Saturday’s time trial, Geraint Thomas (Sky) retained his 19 second lead over Mathias Frank to secure the overall victory.  Johann Tschopp (8th) and Marcel Wyss (9th) also cracked the top 10, placing IAM Cycling in 2nd place for the team standings.

Kjell Carlström, directeur sportif along with Marcello Albasini, welcomed the collective performance of his riders.

“We had a great Tour of Bavaria.  We came here with the hope of winning a stage.  We won two thanks to Heinrich Haussler and Mathias Frank.  In addition to that, Mathias wore the yellow jersey, took 2nd place overall and we have 2nd place in the team standings, which proves our collective strength.

"The big reward, though comes with the renewed confidence for Heinrich Haussler and the confirmation of excellent form for Mathias Frank.  Mathias can also view this from the perspective of just how much he can count on a cohesive and competitive team once we reach the Tour of Switzerland and the Tour de France.  We have no regrets coming away with just 2nd place since we always knew Geraint Thomas would be strong.”

Before recovering from his efforts and analyzing the details of the up-coming Tour of Switzerland, a race where he will be looking for revenge, Mathias Frank also expressed his satisfaction for this week.

“I am very happy with this 2nd place, especially since we proved how strong we are overall by placing three riders in the top 10 and winning two stages.  Personally, I am reassured about my form ahead of the next races.”
