IAM Cycling is continuing its campaign to sign the riders who will join the team for its second season in the WorldTour. After having signed Leigh Howard, Vegard Stake Laengen, and Oliver Naesen, the Swiss professional team has secured the services of Oliver Zaugg for the 2016 season.
The 34 year old (born May 9, 1981) climber from Pfäffikon, Switzerland, has for years lived with his family in the Ticino region of the country. Zaugg, who is coming to the team having raced the past three seasons with Tinkoff-Saxo, has had two major successes in his career: a stage win in the 2011 Tour of Spain after which he surprised the whole cycling world with his victory at the Tour of Lombardy that same season.
The following year he succeeded in finishing a strong 8th place in the Tour of Lombardy. In 2014, he finished in second place during a difficult stage of the Tour of Spain and also notched up a seventh place overall in the 2014 Tour of Austria.
For 2015, luck has not been with Oliver Zaugg. Though he started off strong with a good 18th place in the Tour of Dubai, Zaugg was unable to race for a large portion of the season after he suffered a hard crash at the Tour of the Basque Country.
