Following the merger of Cannondale and Garmin, Matthias Krizek was without a team for a long time in the beginning of 2015. In the end, the 27-year-old then decided to go two steps down and return to his home country with Felbermayr-Simplon Wels. That decision has paid off.
Due to his good performances with the Austrian Continental team, Krizek has secured a professional contract with the new Swiss Pro Continental Roth-Skoda team for the upcoming season.
"It was a very good year for me. In Felbermayr Simplon Wels I was welcomed in a perfect way. It was a very good racing calendar, a great team and therefore a great platform for me to show myself again," Krizek told radsport-news.com.
Krizek was at his best in June at Okola Slovenska (2.2) where he was second in a stage and finished second overall. A second place at the Austrian Championships was another great result. "Unfortunately, I was narrowly beaten by Marco Haller so it was only enough for second. That was a shame," said the Felbermayr rider.
Krizek also delivered a good performance at the Tour of Austria where he rode very aggressively and ended as fourth in the mountains classification. In the meantime, he wore two distinctive jerseys: one as the best Austrian and then the mountains jersey which he ultimately lost to his teammate Felix Großschartner. "It was a highly successful home tour for me and the whole team," Krizek said.
It was no coincidence that his results came late in the season: "In the beginning of the season I rode at the service of the team so we could celebrate a great victory with the guys from the very beginning. From April, I was more and more in the spotlight.”
In the upcoming season, Krizek wants to shine right from the start. "Of course, we still need to get many invitations, but I want to show myself in the spring classics and build on that,” said Roth-Skoda's new signing.
