It was another top 10 for Team Southeast that tok an important 7th place at Coppa Agostoni, the race that marked the return of professional cycling to Italy 50 days after the Trofeo Matteotti. It was Simone Ponzi who was best from the team in the bunch that arrived only a few seconds after Davide Rebellin and Vincenzo Nibali who fought for the victory at the finish line in Lissone after a breakaway of more than 60km.

Team Southeast was one of the most active teams today, first with Rafael Andriato who took part in the early breakaway, and then with Mauro Finetto who was really close to reaching  the group of Nibali and Rebellin but failed to close the gap.

In the last km, the silvered shirts were leading the main bunch trying to catch the leaders and failed only by a few meters. Simone Ponzi finished 7th in the main group where Francesco Gavazzi was missing as he wthdrew after a crash at km 120. Due to the rain, the asphalt was really slippery, and also Rafael Andriato, Andrea Fedi and Samuele Conti fell down during the race.

“This 7th place shows that I feel good and that I can be confident for the next races. I aim to win one of those from tomorrow until the end of the year," Ponzi said.

“What a pity," Finetto said. "When Nibali and Scarponi launched the attack I was too far behind and I tried to come back with Gasparotto hoping that they would slow down but this didn’t happen. I’ve forced the rhytm before the Lissolo climb but the flat part was too short and I realized that  lost the right moment. In the end we’ve left the responsability of the chase to the teams that have faster riders."
