Mauro Finetto continued his excellent season when he finished third in the first stage of the Tour Limousin. Having shown good form, the Italian hopes to win one of the final three stages of the race.
Mauro Finetto got his season off to a great start when he won the GP Lugano and he looked very strong in the many hard Italian one-day races. However, he had a difficult Giro d'Italia and since then he hasn't been able to reach his best form.
Today he proved that he is getting back to his best for the autumn classics when he finished third in the first stage of the Tour du Limousin. Being pleased with his form, he now hopes to win one of the final three stages whose hilly nature should suit the punchy classics rider perfectly.
"3rd is a good result," he told Directvelo. "I'm happy even though I would obviously have preferred to win. I have not won since early March in the Grand Prix of Lugano. I hope to get a win in the next stages.
"I have seen the finish of tomorrow's stage which could be good for me with a 200m climb to the finish. The team is strong, especially Matteo Rabottini. We hope for something in the coming days."
