After the Bayern Rundfahrt has been cancelled in 2016, the Tour de l'Eurométropole could also disappear from the calendar, at least in its current format. Louis Cousaert who has been responsible for the former Circuit Franco-Belge for 38 years, feels that he is getting too old and wants to quit.
"I'm looking for a partner or a buyer," the 64-year-old race director told Het Nieuwsblad. "I have offered the race to the Flanders Classics, Golazo, the organizer of E3 Harelbeke and TRW (the Walloon organizers the GP and the Tour de Wallonie, red). Golazo and TRW have refused but both there are still ongoing discussions with E3 Harelbeke and Flanders Classics. The deadline is December 31."
If he is unable to reach an agreement, the four-day race will be reduced to a one-day race. It will take place on Sunday, October 2nd. The race was first held in 1924 and is the oldest stage race in Belgium.
