Certainly there could be no question about the usual bunch sprint with a climb of 4 km at the of stage of the Vuelta a Espana. Kenny Elissonde, who prefers the true mountains, finished less than two minutes behind, just ahead of Olivier Le Gac who had a successful debut in his first Grand Tour.
"Kenny was not favored by this climb that was more made for puncheurs than for real climbers," says sports director Thierry Bricaud. "He will be in his element in the second week in the north of Spain. Olivier Le Gac finished right behind him and this is the proof that he is healthy and has good legs."
This stage was marked by a big crash in the peloton in which Murillo Fischer was involved without much damage, and he was the only from the FDJ team to hit the deck.
"We can not be dissatisfied with our day, compared for example to the IAM team that lost two riders in one stage. For us, it was a day without incident," Bricaud said
