In his first race since his dramatic crash at the Giro d'Italia, Domenico Pozzovivo (Ag2r) delivered a fantastic performance when he finished second in the queen stage of the Tour de Suisse.
"It was very long and the altitude was difficult to manage with the lack of oxygen," he told CyclingPro.net. "I tried to gauge my effort well because I feel in good shape, and I was fine. I'm happy with this second place behind a very strong Pinot. It's good to start well after the crash in the Giro."
Pozzovivo admits that he "felt that something was missing" to compete with the best, however, he was able to do well on a climb suited to his characteristics. Today's performance also allowed him to move up in the GC where he is now fourth. It will now all be decided in the final time trial.
"The time trial is a bit 'too long for me," he said. "We will see the course which is perhaps not completely flat so it could suit me better."
