After the terrorist attacks in Paris, extra security measures will be applied during the Six-Days in Ghent. "The threat level for major events in Belgium, sporting or cultural, is raised as a result of recent events in Paris," the organizers announce.
"Because of the intense publich interest, the Lotto Zesdaagse Vlaanderen-Gent by will be in the category of events with an increased safety risk (Level 3)," the organizers continue.
"This means that different measures are taken for increased control, both by the organizers and by the police.
"One of those measures is that there will control of bags at the entrance. Backpacks, travel bags and the similar teams are not allowed. The organization will provide a venue to for storage where they can be picked up whe leaving het Kuipke.
"However, the organizers urge that spectators don't bring backpacks / travel bags! (Smaller) handbags are allowed but will also be checked," concluded the organizers.
The 75th edition of the Six-Days of Ghent will start on Tuesday in het Kuipke. Jasper De Buyst and Kenny De Ketele won last year but will not be riding together this year. De Ketele rides with Gijs Van Hoecke and De Buyst Buyst forms a pair with Otto Vergaerde.
