New year, old goal. That seems to be the case for Cadel Evans (BMC Racing Team) as he returns to the Giro del Trentino (22-25 April). The experience gained last season in this race allowed him to get into the physical condition that subsequently allowed him to get on the podium of the Giro d'Italia.

According to Tuttobiciweb.it the 38th edition of the race organized by GS Alto Garda will be enriched with another great protagonist of the pedal after the announcement that Evans will join fellow Australian Richie Port (Team Sky) in the quest for honours at the Giro del Trentino, a race that traditionally serves as a warm-up race for the Giro d’Italia.

"The Giro del Trentino is the ideal race to prepare for an event like the Tour of Italy," Evans said. "Last year’s edition left me with a great memory, it is a well organized race, the streets are beautiful and the scenery is also fascinating. The parcours is very balanced; we encounter tough mountain stages and a time trial, in short, everything that we seek in our preparation for the Giro," Evans said according to Tuttobiciweb.

After an encouraging start to the season that earned him a stage win and 2nd place on General Classification in the home race, the Tour Down Under, the standard bearer of the BMC Racing Team looks towards his spring campaign with cautious optimism.

"I've been feeling fine during the opening stages of the current season. I come from two rather subdued seasons, in which I haven’t performed as well as I had hoped; however, these initial results represent an injection of confidence. I hope to continue on this path," he added.

"Last season Nibali dominated the Tour of Italy after winning the Giro del Trentino, and whoever comes out well from this race can aspire to be a top contender for the Giro d’Italia as well," said Evans, who added "As for the main contenders for the general classification in the Giro del Trentino, Porte will definitely be a main rival, but many strong riders will be present in order to fight for the ultimate success."
