By winning the stage, Gustavo Cesar Veloso gained another ten seconds on Efapel leaders Joni Brandao and Alejandro Marque in stage 6 of the Volta a Portugal. The highlight for the team was the long escape by sprinter Filipe Cardoso.

"The first goal was to get someone in the break," Cardoso said. "We passed through the area where the team is based and also crossed my home soil. I ended up being in the break and as I was there, I tried to win the sprints to score points for the red jersey. When I realized that the peloton had trouble closing the gap, I went all in for the stage win.

"This was a stage that could theoretically finish the sprint. With no pure sprinter, we tried in various ways to get the victory. We failed but it is still a positive stage for us, "explained sports director Américo Silva.

""Gustavo (Veloso) is going through possibly one of the best moments of his career. It has been impossible to catch him in this type of finishes, that give him important seconds. But we are focused on our objective which is to win the Volta a Portugal and we know that very important stages are still to come."
