Team Novo Nordisk’s Martijn Verschoor (NED) did not take the start at Sunday’s Milan-San Remo due to the effects of a crash he experienced last weekend at the Energiewacht Dwars door Drenthe in Roden, Netherlands.
“Martijn felt the effects of the crash all week, but he was highly motivated to race in Milan-San Remo, which is Team Novo Nordisk’s first World Tour race,” Team Novo Nordisk General Manager Vassili Davidenko said. “We worked closely with our medical staff throughout the week and everyone, including Martijn, felt he was ready to start, but he was still experiencing significant pain during Saturday’straining ride. Our staff monitored him closely throughout the evening and into Sunday morning, but by race start, we knew he would be unable to tackle Milan-San Remo. We still have a long season ahead of us and Martijn’s overall health is most important to this team.”
