Tom Dumoulin has been given the award as the Dutch Cyclist of the Year. The Giant-Shimano rider was a surprise winner of the Gerri Schulte Trophy when he took the prize ahead of Niki Terpstra, Lars Boom, Michiel van der Heijden and Lars van der Haar.
Unlike Terpstra (Paris-Roubaix) and Boom (Tour de Francestage victory), Dumoulin didn't win a major international race. However, he was third at the world time trial championships, second in the Tour of Belgium, third in the Eneco Tour, fifth in the Tour of Switzerland and won the Dutch time trial championships.
In the long, final time trial of the Tour de France, he finished second behind Tony Martin.
Former cyclists, cycling fans and journalists were all eligible to vote and had their say in the decision.
In the women's category, Marianne Vos took the trophy for the ninth year in a road. The 27-year-old received more vores than fellow nominees Ellen van Dijk, Annemiek van Vleuten, Laura Smulders and Anna van der Breggen.
This year Vos world cyclocross champion and on the road she won the Giro d'Italia and the Tour of Britain.
Wilco Kelderman received the prize as talent of the year. The Belkin rider who finished seventh in the Giro d'Italia and 14th in the Vuelta a Espana, won the title ahead of Mike Teunissen, Matthijs Buchli, Elis Ligtlee and Sabrina Stultiens.
Bart Brentjens was awarded the Peter Post Trophy. It is a prize awarded to individuals or institutions that have made outstanding contributions for cycling over a long time.
In the past, the prize has been given to Joop Zoetemeld and Rabobank. Last year, it was not awarded. 46-year-old Brentjens won the gold medal in cross country mountain bike at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He has worked as a team boss of his own mountain bike team.
