The Dutch Olympic Committee and Dutch Sports Federation has selected Tom Dumoulin among the nominees for the best sportsman of 2016 in the Netherlands.
Winner of a stage and holder of the pink jersey at the Giro, double stage winner at the Tour and silver medalist in the time trial at the Olympic Games - despite a scaphoid fracture suffering during the Tour - the Giant-Alpecin rider is up against Max Verstappen (Formula 1), Dorian van Rijsselberghe (windsurfing), Ferry Weertman (swimming) and Sven Kramer (speed skating). The native of Maastricht will know his fate on December 21 where a big gala is held.
Anna van der Breggen who became Olympic champion and won Flèche Wallonne, is nominated in the women's category.
