On the last day of his cycling career, Leonardo Duque ended his time as a professional with his arms in the air. Today he was the first to cross the finish line on the final stage of the Tour of Taihu Lake which also gave him the overall victory and a dream end to his career.
The Frenchman who has had a Colombian passport in the past, started the stage in third place in the overall ranking. Overall leader Cameron Bayly seemed to have a safe margin, but he crashed with fifteen kilometers to go on a technical descent. The unfortunate Australian lost a lot of time and so missed out on what seemed to be guaranteed win.
Duque could benefit from the misfortune. The 36-year-old rider from Delko Marseille Provence KTM had the fastest legs after a tough finale. Dutchman Peter Schulting (Parkhotel Valkenburg) finished second ahead of Yondor Godoy (Wilier-Southeast).
