The 216km stage with finish at the historical Floors Castle ended in a sprint. Elia Viviani (Team Sky) did it again and won stage 3 of the Tour of Britain. Juan Jose Lobato (Movistar) finished second with Matteo Trentin (Etixx QuickStep) in third.
Team CULT Energy Pro Cycling’s Russell Downing was in today's break consisting of 6 riders. The last riders were caught with only 5km to go.
“Today we had a small breakaway of 6 riders who got away early after the start. Russell Downing was a part of that group. However the group was kept on a rather short leash as one of the guys was only 1.20 behind on the general classification," sports director Luke Roberts said. "The group managed to get a maximumym of 6.30. However, the sprint teams worked together and caught the group. The stage ended in a bunch sprint.
"Rasmus Guldhammer managed to finish safely in front. Unfortunately the yellow jersey was involved in a major crash just 3 km from the finish line.
Guldhammer moved up one spot in the general classification.
