The 186 kilometer long French one-day race Classic Loire Atlantique on the Western coastline was dominated by a big breakaway of 15 riders. The group made it to the finale where last year’s winner Alexis Gougeard (AG2R) launched the crucial attack from the group.
Gougeard was caught with 4 kilometers to go but instantly launched a counter-move and made it to the finish line to celebrate a second consecutive win in the French race. Unfortunately, CULT Energy Pro Cycling had no representatives in the break and DS Michael Skelde was not surprisingly disappointed:
“The truth is that everyone was given permission to go from the start of the race and enter the morning break and naturally, I’m disappointed that no one made it. It’s simply not good enough as we had a feeling that the race would end up like this. I’m just happy that we get another chance already tomorrow where we take on Cholet – Pays De Loire,” says Skelde.
