"Unfortunately, Sam got boxed in and he could not even start his sprint. This can happen especially in a bunch kick, and it’s also a part of the sport. Obviously, Sam is quite disappointed directly after the finish."

The anniversary edition of the Münsterland Giro wnet according to plan for BORA – ARGON 18 until a few hundred meters before the finish line.

After starting in Ibbenbüren, a five-rider breakaway group quickly formed. It seemed harmless to the sprinters' teams, so they controlled the attackers at any time on the course of 180 kilometers in total. The gap never reached the five-minute mark. BORA – ARGON 18 saved valuable energy in this part of the race and the team helped to chase the breakaway in the last hour of the race.

Ten kilometers before the finish, already on the finish laps in the city center of Münster, the last escapees were caught. The favorite teams kept the pace high and they neutralized all attacks. BORA – ARGON 18 built an optimal sprint train in the final kilometers to prepare the bunch sprint for Sam Bennett. Bennett was in a promising position in the last 500 meters, but was then boxed in by other riders and therefore he couldn’t launch his sprint. Tom Boonen (Etixx - Quick Step) won the 10th edition of the Münsterland Giro.

"The race went perfectly until the last hundred meters. The teamwork was very good and the guys rode exactly as we planned it. The whole course of the race had played into our hands and the team was able to prepare optimally the sprint in the finale. Shane [Archbold] and Michael [Schwarzmann]  brought Sam to the last 500 meters. Unfortunately, Sam got boxed in and he could not even start his sprint. This can happen especially in a bunch kick, and it’s also a part of the sport. Obviously, Sam is quite disappointed directly after the finish, because the podium was within reach", Sport Director Steffen Radochla commented the race immediately after the finish.
