Arnaud Demare made his return to competition after a two-week break when he sprinted to third in the Brussels Cycling Classic. The result capped an excellent performance by the FDJ team who completely dominated the finale.
After a disappointing showing in the Vattenfall Cyclassics where a puncture took him out of contention, Arnaud Demare returned to competition in the Brussels Cycling Classic. The Frenchman finished third but the race will more be remembered for the great performance by his team.
Passing the red kite, the French had the race completely under control with most of its team lined out on the front. Just as they were trying to set their sprinter up for the win, however, Tony Gallopin and André Greipel made a surprise move that caused the French champion to lose a few positions.
"For someone who comes back to racing, it is not bad even though we would have preferred to win," said manager Marc Madiot. A few more races and then Arnaud will win again with the excellent support from his teammates."
