According to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, German John Degenkolb will be back in the peloton in May. The Giant-Alpecin rider, who was involved in a crash at a training camp in January with several of his teammates, is likely to race in two months.
Degenkolb was a victim of a horrendous head-on crash in January while he was training in Spain. He was one of the worst affected and nearly lost his finger in the incident. Along with the Paris-Roubaix winner, Giant-Alpecin riders Warren Barguil, Chad Haga, Fredrik Ludvigsson, Ramon Sinkeldam and Max Walscheid were also injured.
Dutch Ramon Sinkeldam started his season at Tirreno-Adriatico on Wednesday. French Barguil is suffering from a broken scaphoid and he will be back at the Volta a Catalunya alongside Chad Haga, an other involved rider in the crash. Neo-professional Max Walscheid is also still on the road to recovery, though a return date has not yet been confirmed.
