Alessandro De Marchi crowned a very offensive Tour de France by being selected as the most aggressive rider of the race. Despite pointing out that his main goal is to support Peter Sagan, he is keen to continue his racing style in the future.
Peter Sagan was not the only Cannondale rider on the podium at the end of the Tour de France. Despite the team's focus on the sprint stages, Alessandro De Marchi had enough left in the tank to go on the attack in almost all the mountain stages and he was rewarded for his efforts by being selected as the most aggressive rider of the race.
“It's a small number [1, like the trophy awarded to the most aggressive rider] but it's a big result," he said. "I'm very happy and proud to be part of the protocol ceremony on the Champs-Elysées. It's been difficult to ride the way I did during three weeks but I want to continue racing aggressively in the future, providing that my team allows me to do so.
"It has also been an honour to help Peter (Sagan). He's been a bit unlucky but we've achieved the main goal that consisted in bringing the green jersey home. The team has given everything for that.”
